Column Information
Age-related endothelial and smooth muscle cell dysfunctions play a pivotal role in the development of various cardiovascular and vascular disorders, including atherosclerosis, hypertension, and vascular stiffness. This column investigates innovative therapeutic approaches aimed at mitigating the deleterious effects of aging on vascular cells, thus addressing the root causes of age-related vascular diseases. The age-related decline in endothelial function, characterized by impaired nitric oxide production and increased oxidative stress, contributes to endothelial dysfunction. Similarly, aging-associated alterations in smooth muscle cells lead to vascular stiffness and maladaptive remodeling.
