The 43rd Live Lecture of JCBP: Research Progress on Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Comorbid with Anxiety Disorders

The Journal of Clinical and Basic Psychosomatics will hold this live lecture titled "Research Progress on Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Comorbid with Anxiety Disorders" on Bilibili and the WeChat Channels platform at 20:00 on May 14, 2026 (GMT+08:00).

Temporal lobe epilepsy is the most common type of focal epilepsy in adults, with seizures originating from the temporal lobe structures and often accompanied by consciousness disorders and emotion-related symptoms. Clinically, over 50% of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy exhibit significant anxiety symptoms, which is much higher than that in the general epilepsy population and other types of focal epilepsy. However, the comorbidity of anxiety disorders in temporal lobe epilepsy has long been underestimated, underdiagnosed, and undertreated. This comorbidity not only significantly reduces patients' quality of life, exacerbates the frequency and severity of seizures, but also increases the risk of adverse reactions to antiepileptic drugs and the risk of suicide, forming a vicious cycle of "epilepsy-anxiety-seizure deterioration".

This lecture will systematically review the epidemiological characteristics, comorbid biological mechanisms, clinical diagnosis, treatment, and research progress of temporal lobe epilepsy comorbid with anxiety. It will focus on discussing the complex impacts of anxiety on the prognosis and treatment response of temporal lobe epilepsy and introduce the latest advances in current intervention research.

We are honored to have invited Professor Xiong Han from Henan Provincial People's Hospital to serve as the keynote speaker on the topic "Research Progress on Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Comorbid with Anxiety Disorders." Additionally, Professor Cheng Tao from Zhenjiang Mental Health Center will act as the moderator. We sincerely welcome scholars from all fields to actively participate in this academic live lecture.
