Institution Overview:
Shanghai Jiaotong University Medical 3D Printing Innovation Research Center is based on the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. It is the first medical 3D printing center around the world that introduces 3D printing technology into the medical field and integrates production, education and research. Now it is responsible for two provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms:Shanghai engineering research center of medical 3D printing technology and clinical translation and Shanghai engineering research center of innovatice orthopaedic instruments and personalized medicine. Moreover, it is the co-construction unit of national engineering laboratory of polymer complex structure additive manufacturing.
The Center is committed to the research and promotion of the application of 3D printing technology in the medical and clinical field. It is a base for the development and translation of medical 3D printing application, a demonstration base for clinical application, and a base for academic exchange and talent training. Under the leadership of Academician Kerong Dai and Prof. Yongqiang Hao, the Center adheres to the concept: "Concept first, innovation leads; Clinical demand-oriented, clinical transformation into traction, relying on international cutting-edge technology, medical and industrial cooperation, industry-university-research combination" and carries out the construction work. The center has built an efficient and pragmatic team composed of many senior medical experts and full-time engineering R&D technicians with doctoral and master degrees, and is equipped with advanced medical metal, polymer and biological 3D printing equipments, which can print materials such as medical titanium alloys, pure titanium, biodegradable polymers, bioceramics, bioactive gels and photosensitive resins. Moreover, a technical system consisting of three-dimensional reconstruction of medical images, personalized treatment and surgery planning, personalized implant design and manufacturing has been built.
In addition, the center has carried out active research on the 3D printing surgical models, guide plates, personalized implants, bone repair materials, and drug sustained release materials, involving joint, spine, trauma, neurosurgery, oral cavity, plastic surgery, rehabilitation, tissue engineering and other fields. At present, more than 60 tertiary hospitals including the first affiliated hospital of China medical university, Qilu hospital of Shandong university (QLH), union hospital, Tongji medical college, Huazhong university of science and technology, Anhui Provincial hospital, general hospital of Ningxia medical university, Xinjiang uygur autonomous region people's hospital, Jiangxi provincial people's hospital,
Guigang people's hospital affiliated to Guangxi medical university, the first affiliated hospital of Fujian medical university, Tangshan central hospital, the second people's hospital of Shenzhen, Inner Mongolia autonomous region people's hospital, second hospital of Shanxi medical university, Luoyang orthopedic-traumatological hospital of Henan province, Wuxi ninth people's hospital, Gansu Huating first people's hospital, Jinhua hospital of TCM, Mianyang central hospital, ect in 26 provinces have established 3D printing sub-centers to demonstrate the application and promotion of personalized medicine concepts and technologies, and some of the results have been applied to clinical practice to benefit patients.

The College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, Hunan University, with its origins tracing back to the Department of Mechanics established in 1908, is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges at Hunan University. In the US News 2025–2026 World University Subject Rankings, Mechanical Engineering was ranked 8th globally.
