Special Issue Information

Arts and arts organizations are able to distribute content to wide numbers of different audiences, as they cover a variety of sectors and therefore interests—from literature to film and from opera to popular and traditional music, etc.—, formulating powerful communication channels with strong cultural and social impact. The special issue “Communicating Sustainability Values through Art: Theories & Practices” welcomes articles that examine the role of arts and cultural organizations both as role-models and as vehicles transmitting sustainability messages both on site and through the digital semiosphere. By examining the sustainability practices and/or messages created and promoted through art (whether through the artworks themselves and/or through themed exhibitions, music/ dance/ theater performances, or even through an organization’s digital messages, etc) certain theoretical frameworks and good examples of promoting sustainability both as a crucial contemporary need and as a life value will be underlined.
