The 24th Live Lecture of JCBP: Diagnosis and Treatment of Paroxysmal Hypertension

The Journal of Clinical and Basic Psychosomatics will hold this live lecture titled "Diagnosis and Treatment of Paroxysmal Hypertension" on Bilibili and WeChat Channels at 20:00 on March 28, 2025 (GMT+08:00).

Paroxysmal hypertension manifests as sudden blood pressure surges (above 180-200/110 mmHg) accompanied by symptoms such as palpitations, headaches, and limb tremors, which can easily be misdiagnosed as pheochromocytoma. However, in most actual cases, no evidence of tumors is found upon examination, and consideration should be given to pseudo-pheochromocytoma or emotional hypertension. The latter is often associated with emotional disorders such as anxiety and panic, including overt and latent psychological factors. Diagnosis requires the exclusion of organic diseases and integration with psychological assessment. Treatment involves controlling acute episodes with short-acting antihypertensive medications combined with anti-anxiety/depression medications, breathing exercises, and psychological interventions to avoid iatrogenic panic. For long-term stability, there is no need to adjust the conventional antihypertensive regimen.
