Editor-in-Chief Prof. Michael Brainin and Editorial Board Member Prof. Natan Bornstein Lead New Special Issue on Post-Stroke Cognitive Impairment
30 May 2026

Brain & Heart is pleased to announce the launch of a new Special Issue, “Cognitive Impairment after a Stroke: Its Risk Factors, Detection and Management,” led by Prof. Michael Brainin, Editor-in-Chief of Brain & Heart, together with Prof. Natan Bornstein, a member of the journal’s Editorial Board.

Cognitive impairment is one of the most common and challenging consequences of stroke, affecting patients’ functional recovery, quality of life, and long-term outcomes. Despite increasing recognition of its clinical significance, important questions remain regarding the mechanisms, risk factors, early detection, prevention, and management of post-stroke cognitive decline.

This Special Issue aims to provide a dedicated platform for advancing research and clinical understanding of cognitive impairment following stroke. By bringing together experts in neurology, stroke medicine, neuropsychology, rehabilitation, geriatrics, and related disciplines, the issue seeks to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and support the development of effective strategies for patient care.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Epidemiology and burden of post-stroke cognitive impairment;
  • Risk factors and underlying pathophysiological mechanisms;
  • Neuroimaging and biomarker studies;
  • Cognitive screening, assessment, and early detection;
  • Prevention and intervention strategies;
  • Rehabilitation and long-term management approaches;
  • Vascular cognitive impairment and dementia;
  • Clinical trials and translational research in stroke-related cognitive disorders.

The Special Issue welcomes original research articles, review articles, perspectives, and other scholarly contributions that enhance understanding of post-stroke cognitive impairment and its clinical management.

As a leading international journal in neurocardiology and brain–heart interactions, Brain & Heart remains committed to supporting research that addresses major neurological and cardiovascular challenges. This Special Issue reflects the journal’s ongoing efforts to promote high-quality scholarship with direct relevance to patient outcomes and clinical practice.
