Sustainable coffee supply chain management: A systematic literature review

Abstract

Coffee, a beloved beverage worldwide, is responsible for the livelihoods of millions of people. With concerns about sustainability practices rising among policymakers and consumers alike, it is crucial that every member of the supply chain takes action. A growing body of related research in recent years highlights the growing importance of sustainable coffee supply chain management. This study aims to provide a focused overview of sustainable coffee supply chain management from a business and management perspective. A systematic literature review method is adopted, and results of descriptive and content analysis are reported. The main findings include the identification of seven main themes in the literature and an overview of the current state of research. Furthermore, several future research directions have been proposed under seven research themes. This paper contributes to the literature by providing a management-focused synthesis of sustainable coffee supply chain research, complementing existing reviews that concentrate on specific topics or adopt a broader multidisciplinary scope.
