This special issue aims to advance interdisciplinary research by integrating computational innovation, materials science, and advanced manufacturing to emulate nature’s evolutionary ingenuity. The SI addresses challenges in the scalability, reproducibility, and performance optimization of bio-inspired materials (e.g., polymers, hierarchical composites, metamaterials, metals, and ceramics) through the convergence of digital tools – such as generative design, topology optimization, and AI-driven algorithms – with additive manufacturing technologies, including 4D printing and multimaterial 3D printing.
The scope emphasizes the scalable application of biomimetic principles into practice, covering novel AM techniques for complex geometries, hybrid materials, and responsive structures. These innovations redefine bio-inspired material development by leveraging synergies between digital design, predictive modeling, and modern manufacturing techniques.
It is my pleasure to extend an invitation for the submission of a manuscript for the Special Issue. Despite the focus of the SI on biodesign, other research papers, communications, and reviews in additive manufacturing are also welcome.
