AFIDEP at the 9th African Population Conference

The 9th African Population Conference (APC), organised by the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS), will convene in Lilongwe, from 20 to 24 May 2024. This pivotal gathering, occurring once every four years, brings together over 800 delegates to examine population and development issues pertinent to the African continent. Aligned with the conference theme “Road to 2030: Leveraging Africa’s human capital to achieve transformation in a world of uncertainty,” the event offers a unique platform for in-depth engagement and discussion among multisectoral stakeholders on leveraging Africa’s human capital for sustainable development.
Building on the success of past APCs, the 9th APC presents an opportunity to reflect on the progress made towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the AU Agenda 2063, and the objectives outlined in the International Conference on Population and Development and the Bucharest World Population Conference. Participants will deliberate on what has worked, what has not, and explore strategies to address challenges in a rapidly changing global landscape.
The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), one of the key partners of this year’s event, will contribute its expertise in promoting evidence-informed decision-making and policymaking, as well as underscoring the importance of harnessing the continent’s demographic dividend.
