Special Issue Information

Pain, both acute and chronic, affects in a significant entity brain’s and heart’s physiology. Brain and Heart is a new interesting scientific journal trying to explore any single aspects of these 2 crucial organs. Therefore, the choice to activate a special issue on the interrelationships between heart, brain and pain was a natural and very important consequence. It is known, for example, that myocardial infarction manifests itself in the vast majority of cases with severe acute pain and that this markedly influences the psychological reactions of the patient who is affected by this dramatic pathological event. Equally well known are the consequences of this condition on the modifications of neuronal circuits that can induce the onset of chronic pain. Another important example is the chronic pain that invariably follows any ischemic or traumatic brain injury, and which manifests itself in the form of neuropathic pain.

The aim of this publication will be to bring together the most up-to-date and interesting scientific research can offer the reader in this sector. We are open to receiving proposals for manuscripts relating to basic research that explores existing relationships, but also research on the pathophysiological modifications that pain causes on the brain and heart. We also welcome articles that explore how AI and machine learning models can help in the diagnosis and treatment of the myriad interactions between the two organs and pain. Particular attention will also be paid to therapeutic aspects. Therapeutic innovations always represent the most interesting aspect for the clinicians, as they are essential to improve the treatment perspectives of patients, an essential aim of our professional activity.
