Aims & Scope

Blood Exploration is an academic journal publishing basic, translational, and clinical research in hematology. The journal covers normal and abnormal hematopoiesis, hematologic malignancies and non-malignant disorders, as well as advances in their understanding, diagnosis, and treatment.

Blood Exploration welcomes mechanistic, translational, and clinical studies in hematology, with particular interest in hematologic malignancies, immunotherapy and cellular therapy, precision diagnosis and treatment, and emerging diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Innovative methods and technologies are also considered provided that they have clear applications in hematology.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Hematopoiesis and blood cell biology:Stem and progenitor cells, bone marrow biology, blood cell development, clonal hematopoiesis, and aging.
  • Hematologic malignancies:Leukemias, lymphomas, plasma cell neoplasms, myelodysplastic neoplasms, and myeloproliferative neoplasms, including disease biology, molecular classification, and precision therapy.
  • Non-malignant hematology:Anemias, hemoglobinopathies, bone marrow failure, and inherited or acquired blood cell disorders.
  • Thrombosis and hemostasis: Platelet biology, coagulation, bleeding and thrombotic disorders, and vascular biology relevant to hematology.
  • Immunotherapy, cellular therapy, and gene therapy: Immune regulation, CAR-T and other cellular therapies, therapeutic antibodies, gene therapy, and gene editing.
  • Transplantation and transfusion medicine: Hematopoietic cell transplantation, graft-versus-host disease, immune reconstitution, transfusion medicine, and blood products.
  • Diagnostics and emerging technologies: Biomarkers, measurable residual disease, molecular and cellular diagnostics, single-cell and multi-omics approaches, and experimental models.
  • Computational and clinical hematology: Artificial intelligence, machine learning, clinical trials, real-world evidence, patient outcomes, and data-driven approaches to hematologic research and care.

The journal welcomes original research articles, brief research reports, methods articles, reviews, systematic reviews, perspectives, and commentaries across all areas of hematology. Submissions are evaluated for originality, scientific rigor, transparency, and significance to blood biology or hematologic care. Interdisciplinary studies should demonstrate a clear connection to a hematologic question, while computational and technology-focused studies should include validation appropriate to their intended research or clinical application.
