In the field of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, Prof. Chen has made systematic and innovative achievements: proposed a new classification of hepatocellular carcinoma and the theory that large hepatocellular carcinoma can be safely resected; established three techniques for controlling bleeding in hepatic resection and one liver transplantation; proposed the concept of small-scope hepatic resection to treat hilar cholangiocarcinoma; established biliary-intestinal anastomosis and insertion-type biliary-intestinal anastomosis without suturing of the anterior bile duct wall; improved the operation procedure of pancreaticoduodenectomy and created Chen’s pancreatic-intestinal suture technique. Prof. Chen also improved the operation steps of pancreaticoduodenectomy and created Chen’s pancreatic-intestinal suture technique.
