In recent years, urban renewal, revitalization, and the incorporation of sustainable features into new architectures have been taking place in different cities of China. This special issue attempts to explore how modern digital technology and data analytic tools can be utilized in landscape and urban planning, construction, changing land use pattern, and so on, with the aim of steering Chinese cities forward. Furthermore, the connection between environmental features and the energy performance of buildings or urban architecture is of paramount importance, because it is related to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and can possibly be associated with economic growth and positive health impacts in the long run. With the synergy of data manipulation and digital processing, together with sustainable architectural design, and the advancement in technologies that could more effectively detect spatial changes and transitions, a resilient and prosperous China may be established. This special issue also addresses the joint efforts between government, architects, environmentalists, and local communities that contribute to modernized architecture and facilities at the city level, as well as the national urban design campaigns. Research articles, methods, literature reviews, and community case studies are all welcome.
