Abstract

In this study, removal efriciency ofheavy metals such as iron, manganese, copper and nickel were surveyecin various units of water treatment plant. Samples were taken from influent, before and ater sedimentation and afterfiltration under standard condition. Concentration ofheavy metals in each sample was measured by atomic absorptionspectrophotometer. The results showed that removal eficiency of iron, manganese, copper and nickel were 71, 6079 and 40 percent, respectively, Experimental results currently showed low eficiency for the suitable removal ofaluminium. So, the aluminium concentration in all the samples from the influent (2.03 mg I') and effluen(2 mg Fl) of the water treatment plant exceeded the EPA drinking water standard (50 ug I'). It is concluded thatusing conventional treatment technoloey can reduce metal concentrations excent aluminium below internationallapproved guidelines.
