Over the past two decades, metropolises in China have experienced a rapid economic transition and urban re-development, mainly in their former industrial zones and downtown areas. A large number of old architectures were reconstructed to the new venues for cultural production or consuming spaces, which are usually termed as creative industry parks (Chuangyi chanye yuanqu). It provides, on the one hand, a new model that regenerates the old urban space, and leads to a process of gentrification and displacement on the other. This special issue therefore seeks to give impetus to the scholarly discourse on the culture-led urban redevelopment in China regarding its dynamics, sustainability, and policy implications. We look for papers related to but not limited to the following topics:
- creative cities
- creative spaces
- culture-led redevelopment
- revitalization of architectural heritages
- landscape design and planning of artistic spaces
- new consuming spaces
- social aspects of culture-based urban projects
